Parisian tea rooms history is intimitely tied to the history of the Ladurée family.\r\nIt all began in 1862, when Louis Ernest Ladurée, a miller from France’s southwest,\r\ncreated a bakery in Paris at 16 rue Royale.\r\n\r\nIn 1871, while Baron Haussmann was giving Paris a “new face”,\r\na fire in the bakery opened the possibility of a tranformation into a pastry shop.\r\n\r\nThe decoration of the pastry shop was entrusted to Jules Cheret,\r\na famous turn-of-the-century painter and poster artist.\r\nUnder the Second Empire, cafes developed and became\r\nmore and more luxurious.
